|The Wye Valley Railway and the Coleford Branch|
Author: B M Handley and R Dingwall
The Wye Valley Railway which linked Monmouth with Chepstow ran through an area of outstanding natural beauty which was rich in industrial archeology.
The coming of the railway gave much easier access, vastly increasing the popularity of the region with day trippers and leading to a variety of special excursions with Tintern Abbey in particular being very popular, attracting thousands of people at a time from all over England.
This book covers the story of this line and its forerunner, the Monmouth Tramroad, as well as that of the short branch across the river at Tintern for the Wireworks traffic and contains a series of reminiscences capturing the atmosphere of this delightful country railway.
